What changes for you
The last 8 weeks of platform news, most demanding first: what breaks, what has to be done by a date, what is worth a look. Pick the areas you run and the list keeps to them.
This weekWeek 42, 20262 worth evaluating
- Lakeflow pipeline parameters are generally available for SQL sources
Key-value parameters for Lakeflow pipelines have left preview. One pipeline's SQL source can run against different catalogs, schemas or tables: defaults live in the pipeline settings, an update can override them, and the SQL refers to them with named parameter syntax.
- Feature Views reach general availability for batch, streaming and request-time data
Feature Views, the declarative way to define and compute features, are generally available for batch, streaming and request-time data. For workspaces with the compliance security profile, they will be switched on automatically in mid-November 2026.

- DeepSeek V4 Flash (0731) will be retired on 5 November 2026
DeepSeek V4 Flash (0731) is scheduled to be retired on November 5, 2026. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash is the recommended replacement. Anything calling the old model needs to move before that date; the deprecated and retired models page carries the migration guidance.
- CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW will keep grants, tags and comments from 2 December 2026
From December 2, 2026, CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW will update a view in place instead of dropping and recreating it, so grants, tags and comments are preserved. Governed tags on a view column must be removed before the column is dropped this way, otherwise the statement fails with CANNOT_DROP_TAGGED_COLUMN. Adding NOCOPY drops grants, tags and comments explicitly, though governed tags are still retained.
What to do, by 2 Dec 2026 · in 50 days: Review scripts that replace views and rely on grants, tags or comments being cleared, remove governed tags before dropping a tagged view column, and add NOCOPY where clearing is wanted.
- Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS ends on 2026-11-01
Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS reaches the end of its life on 2026-11-01. Anything still relying on it needs a plan before then.
- Genie One MCP Beta endpoint (/api/2.0/mcp/genie) ends on 2026-10-31
Genie One MCP Beta endpoint (/api/2.0/mcp/genie) reaches the end of its life on 2026-10-31. Anything still relying on it needs a plan before then.

- AI/BI dashboards can pre-compute dataset results on a schedule (Beta)
Dataset materialization for AI/BI dashboards is in Beta. Dataset results are computed on a schedule and stored, so a published dashboard renders from the stored results instead of rerunning expensive queries on every load or interaction.
- Unity Gateway external service policies send traffic to a partner guardrail (Beta)
In Beta, an external service policy on Unity Gateway forwards request and response content to a third-party guardrail vendor and blocks the call if the vendor denies it. Applications need no changes.
- On-behalf-of-user authorization for Databricks Apps is generally available
Databricks Apps can now call supported APIs as the signed-in user, so Unity Catalog row filters and column masks apply to that user, while API scopes cap what the app may do. A read-only query app can request sql:restricted-query rather than the broader sql scope, and workspace admins can restrict which scopes developers may add.
- DeepSeek V4.1 Flash gains priority pay-per-token and reserved throughput
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash can now be served with priority pay-per-token for latency-sensitive traffic, or with reserved provisioned throughput for dedicated capacity.

Metric views can now define window measures, which cover rolling windows, cumulative totals and semiadditive aggregations such as moving averages, period-over-period change and running totals. The feature is generally available as of this note. Anyone modelling time-based KPIs in metric views no longer has to treat it as a preview.
- Lakeflow Jobs can use up to five triggers per job (Beta)
A Lakeflow job can now carry up to five triggers. Trigger types can be mixed, several triggers of the same type are allowed, and each trigger can be paused on its own. The release note labels this Beta.
- NEAREST BY: a SQL join for batch vector search in Databricks Runtime
NEAREST BY is a SQL join that finds, for each row on the left, the k closest rows on the right by vector similarity or distance, either EXACT or APPROX. It runs in Photon with a fused operator, and APPROX queries can use an IVF index stored as a liquid-clustered Delta table. The post does not state a release stage, so availability needs checking against the documentation.
- Iceberg REST catalogs gain UNREGISTER; Unity Catalog support is in private preview
Databricks contributed an UNREGISTER endpoint to the Apache Iceberg REST catalog specification. It removes a table from one catalog without touching its files and returns the latest metadata location, which another catalog then takes over with REGISTER, so a table has one managing catalog throughout the move. REGISTER and UNREGISTER on Unity Catalog are in private preview and available through the account team.
- JDBC Unity Catalog connections to be on by default under the compliance profile
In mid-November 2026, JDBC Unity Catalog connections, including SSL certificate support, will be available by default for workspaces with the compliance security profile enabled. Such a connection reaches an external database through a custom JDBC driver, with access governed by Unity Catalog. The note gives a month, not a day.

- OpenJev can be the evaluator model for LLM-as-a-judge service policies (Beta)
In Beta, a custom LLM-as-a-judge service policy on Unity Gateway can use OpenJev (Qwen3.5 4B) as its evaluator model service. The page says OpenJev classifies content without generating output tokens, so it typically responds faster than a chat evaluator.
- Unity Gateway service policies can require caller-supplied request tags (Beta)
In Beta, a custom service policy on Unity Gateway can check tags that the caller attaches to a request, for example requiring a given tag before a model request or an MCP tool call goes through. This lets a policy decide on caller context rather than only on content.
- Google Workspace connector for Lakeflow Connect reaches Beta
Lakeflow Connect has a managed Google Workspace connector in Beta. It ingests audit activity from Google Workspace applications and services into Databricks, using OAuth user authorization and incremental ingestion.
- Unity Catalog Scala, Java and Python UDFs to be on by default under the compliance profile

You opt in per synced table under Synchronization settings, and it works on Lakebase projects running Postgres 16, 17 or 18.
- Built-in IP and CIDR functions are generally available on Databricks Runtime 18 LTS+
Databricks now ships native SQL, PySpark and Scala functions for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and CIDR blocks: parsing, canonicalizing, inspecting, converting to binary, and ip_cidr_contains for containment joins. try_ variants return NULL on bad input instead of failing. They are generally available on Databricks Runtime 18 LTS and above.
- Excel and Google Sheets writeback now needs a workspace admin setting
Writing data back to Databricks from the Excel add-in or from Google Sheets now requires a workspace admin to turn on the "Allow spreadsheet writeback" security setting. Workspaces where it stays off will see writeback stop working, so admins who have spreadsheet users should check the setting.
- ai_decide enters Beta: fast structured decisions over text and data in SQL
ai_decide is a new AI Function in Beta that answers one or more questions about an input in a single call. For each question it returns a probability, one label from criteria you define, or a score on an ordered scale. The input can be plain text, a JSON object or array, or the VARIANT output of ai_parse_document or ai_extract. It runs from SQL for batch work and through a REST API for real-time use; the SQL function needs Databricks Runtime 15.4 LTS or above and is not available on Databricks SQL Classic. Typical uses are tagging, routing prompts to a model and judging agent answers.
- Query tags for SQL warehouses reach general availability

- A worked example of what Spark Declarative Pipelines solves, with F1 data
A practitioner walkthrough that builds a small pipeline over Formula 1 race data to show what Spark Declarative Pipelines (SDP) automates: resolving dependency order from declared datasets instead of hand-built DAGs, retries, state management and an event log built into the framework, and triggered runs that reuse Structured Streaming's micro-batch engine so the same declarative pipeline handles batch and streaming without separate code paths.

- Partner-powered AI features toggle will be removed
Databricks will remove the account- and workspace-level toggle for partner-powered AI features on November 1, 2026. Existing workspace values will not change: enabled stays enabled, and disabled stays disabled. After that date, administrators must contact their Databricks account team to change the setting.
- Partner-powered AI features can no longer be disabled in settings UI
Databricks no longer lets account or workspace admins disable the partner-powered AI features setting in the settings UI, although they can still enable it there. Until November 1, 2026, admins can use the Settings API to enable or disable the setting; after that, the setting is removed and changes require contacting the Databricks account team.
- The partner-powered AI features switch goes away on 1 November 2026
The setting can no longer be turned off from the UI, only on, and it is removed entirely on 1 November 2026. After that date the features it gates are simply part of the platform.
- Serverless jobs can restore run state into notebooks in preview
Databricks can automatically capture a snapshot for eligible serverless compute job runs. In Public Preview, you can restore the Python variables and Spark session from that run into a new interactive notebook to debug a failure or explore results without rerunning the whole job.
- DeepSeek V4.1 Flash is available on Unity Gateway

- time_bucket adds fixed-width timestamp buckets in SQL
Databricks SQL now has the time_bucket function, which returns the start of the fixed-width interval that contains a timestamp. Use it instead of date_trunc when the bucket width or bucket origin is not a calendar unit.
- ABAC gains DENY policies, and they beat every grant
A DENY policy blocks MANAGE ACCESS CONTROL for the principals it names, and it always wins over a grant that would allow it. Beta. It is the first ABAC construct that can take something away rather than hand it out.
- time_bucket rounds a timestamp to a fixed window
The function returns the start of the fixed-width interval a timestamp falls into, aligned to an origin you choose. Generally available, and it removes the date_trunc-and-arithmetic dance from most time-series grouping.
- Zerobus Ingest writes into default storage tables
Zerobus Ingest can now target tables backed by default storage, not only ones with an external location. Public preview. Arrow Flight support for the same connector went generally available on 1 September.
- How Unity Catalog's anomaly detection flags stale or incomplete tables
Explains how Databricks' Public Preview anomaly detection watches every table in a schema for freshness (commit timing) and completeness (row-volume), using serverless intelligent scanning that adds no load to the jobs writing the table. Covers the privileges needed to enable it (MANAGE) versus view it (SELECT/BROWSE), how to turn it on from Catalog Explorer, the six health statuses shown per table, and querying results from the system.data_quality_monitoring.table_results system table.
